ARDS SENIOR TEAM WIN PGL  Divison2
ARDS SENIOR TEAM MADE SURE OF THE LEAGUE TITLE
WITH A 6.5 POINT WIN AWAY TO SALISBURY ON TUESDAY NIGHT.

Ards Bowling Club is enjoying an unprecedented run of success with two league titles and two cup wins already in the bag.

This is the most successful season ever in the ninety year history of the Club.

 I B A  INTERMEDIATE CUP FINAL
ARDS    V    HILDEN
SATURDAY 26TH AUGUST

While the Ards B team were claiming all the glory the Ards A team were quietly going about trying to secure  their own League and cup double. As holders of the IBA Intermediate Cup they were the team to beat and despite a few scares along the way they once again made it to the final where they faced Hilden A.

This was never going to be a one sided final like 2016 as matches between the two clubs were usually very tight affairs. Hilden B had the best of the opening ends but Ards A fought back and by the 16th end mark had opened up a 10 shot lead. They managed to keep this gap for the rest of the match and emerged victorious by 81 shots to 71. The first half of the double was achieved.

The game was played in a good sporting manner and a great game from the spectators point of view - Well done everyone and thanks to Belmont B.C. management for the use of their excellent facilities and hospitality.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ARDS JUNIOR    TEAM ON WINNING THE PGL LEAGUE 5   AND THE PGL JUNIOR  CUP

The last time Ards won the NIPGBL Junior Cup was in 2001.   Some of the players from that victorious squad are playing for the current team but they would not have been over confident of repeating that success as most of the teams in the Ards B half of the draw were playing in Division 4. Wins against Belmont C and P.S.N.I. saw Ards B through to the final where in a very tense match they managed to overcome Saintfield by 6 shots.

Ards B team wrapped up the NIPGBL Division 5 title when they picked up 6 points at home against Hilden B.

Having led the Division for most of the season they fully deserve their promotion and can now relax as Albert Foundry and Malone fight it out for second place and the chance to join Ards B next season in Division 4.

Midweek team plays a waiting game!
With their league programme complete the Ards Midweek team currently lead Division 1.

Whether they emerge as champions or finish as runners-up is out of their hands.

Mossley require two points from a rearranged match against Dunbarton to pip Ards to the title.
Regardless of the outcome Ards have reinforced their reputation as one of the most consistent teams in Midweek bowls.

 Ards stalwart Tom Thompson

Tom is on the verge of creating
his own bit of bowling history.
This season Tom has won a Division 5 medal, Junior Cup medal and IBA Intermediate Cup medal with a potential Division 2 medal still to come. Very few players  will ever have the opportunity to play in two double winning teams in the same season and should Tom achieve this feat his place in the record books is assured...

Bowlers:  Play Bowls
Bowls truly is the sport for all regardless of age, sex or physical ability. It is a sport that takes just seconds to learn - and the rest of your bowling career to master.
With more than 3,000 clubs across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland there's bound to be one near to you. And bowls is a relatively cheap game compared to other sports, whether you choose to join a club or 'pay and play' at your local park.
You will find below a basic introduction to the sport, but for more information contact your nearest club - ARDS BOWLING CLUB
Bowls basics
The object of the sport of bowls is essentially simple. It is played on a square of closely cut grass called 'the green', which is divided into playing areas called rinks. The green is surrounded by a small ditch to catch bowls which leave the green, and a bank upon which markers indicate the corners and centre lines of each rink.
Players take turns to deliver their bowls from a mat at one end of the rink towards a small white ball, often referred to as 'the jack' at the other end. Bowls are shaped so that they take a curved path towards the jack. To be successful the bowl must be delivered with the correct weight, along the correct line.

The object is to get one or more of your bowls closer to the jack than those of your opponents on each end - one point is scored for each counting bowl.

There are many different formats to the game, but the most common are singles or in teams of pairs, triples or fours. In singles, the winner is the first to score 21 points. In the other three formats, the winner is the team that scores the most points over a set number of ends.

 THURSDAY NIGHT RINKS UNDER WAY

A bit of sunshine on the night, however looking at what the players were wearing tells a different story

From memory Laurence ended up wearing his top coat!

George Bennett Jnn. certainly came prepared -

Who is the warm looking member to the left of the picture - Tommy ???

This picture  shows that despite the cold  that most people  (like Drew and Robert) enjoyed the game
